Since our state-mandated closure in Mid-March, our Ontario County DMV has been working hard to
service appointments and mail in or drop off transactions. Moving forward, in an effort to best
serve our Ontario County residents, some of our processing procedures have changed. Effective
immediately, any registration transactions will need to be serviced by mail in or drop off only.
Our walk in services will be limited to specific transactions that require in person visits, such
as license transactions and permits. Please understand, although we know this can be an
inconvenience for our community, we are dedicated to maintaining as quick of a turnaround for drop
off and mail in transactions as possible.
For transactions that are mailed in or dropped off to our drop box, please make sure that you have
provided clear and accurate contact information (phone number & email). We will contact you,
should your transaction require additional documentation. To avoid delays and to maintain
organization, our office will return any incomplete packets after 10 business days if we do not
receive the necessary materials to complete your transaction. Any additional documentation
required, must be either mailed in or dropped off and MUST indicate that there is already a file
for you at our office. Most drop off and mail in work can be completed in 3-5 business days.
It is very important that you very carefully review your paper work prior to submitting to us, this
will also help us efficiently process and return your documents and/or plates to you. Simple
errors will ultimately delay in your processing. Please utilize the state's check list. and registration calculator. Do not forget to add in the appropriate sales tax.
PAYMENT METHOD: Check or Money Order made out to “Ontario County Clerk”. You are REQUIRED to
calculate your fees & taxes. Go to https://process.dmv.ny.gov/regfeecalc/ to determine your total,
then add your counties percent for sales tax on the purchase price of the vehicle (i.e. Ontario Co
7.5%, Monroe/Yates Co 8%). If you are unsure of the value, please leave the value portion of the
check blank and our office will fill it in as a courtesy when the transaction is processed. For
license transactions, please use the states guide for fees.
Credit Card: Complete the credit card authorization form which will authorize Ontario County to
process the transaction, without requiring you to calculate your fees.
IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL FEES: For transactions requiring new plates to be issued, an additional $5 feewill be incurred for mailing. Please provide separate payment: CASH, CHECK OR MONEY ORDER ONLY for these fees. PAYABLE TO ONTARIO COUNTY CLERK.
